If Yes, then you need to take action and are now required to apply for a Director ID with the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS).

If No, then No action is required.

A Director ID is a unique identifier in dealing with ASIC that a Director will keep for life and is a means to confirm your identity. You have to apply yourself as no one else can apply for you.

If you were a Director before 1 November 2021, then you have until 30 November 2022 to apply for your Director ID.

If you become a Director between 1 November 2021 and 4 April 2022 then you need to apply within 28 days of your appointment.

After 4 April 2022, you will need a Director ID before you are appointed a Director.

Please keep your Director ID safe and secure. Therefore, like your tax file number, please do not send it to anyone by email. If we are your registered ASIC Agent please advise us accordingly when it is received.

The information you need to apply for your Director ID includes your Tax File Number and two of the following:

  • Bank Account Details held with the ATO
  • An ATO Notice of Assessment
  • Super Fund Account Details
  • A Dividend Statement
  • A Centrelink Payment Summary
  • A PAYG Payment Summary
